Just WHO is Rebekah Montgomery? (Suddenly there's whole crowd of us!)
Once upon a time when the Internet was newborn, my name was not a problem. I was the only Rebekah Montgomery around with the funny spelling of “Rebekah.” Here lately, however, the Internet population is teeming with Rebekah Montgomerys with the same unusual spelling of Rebekah. Let me tell you: People are getting their Rebekah Montgomerys mixed up, and in some ways, I can see why. So let me clarify:
I AM NOT Rebekah Montgomery, the actress.
I AM the Rebekah Montgomery who has written and directed a ton of theater productions, musicals, skits, and puppet stories. I even acted in a few of them. But a professional actress? No. Never.
I AM NOT Rebekah Montgomery, the army chaplain named Chaplain of the Year.
I AM the Rebekah Montgomery who DID served as a chaplain in the children’s hospital wards in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Also, I AM the Rebekah Montgomery named 2010 Woman of the Year by the local chapter of Business and Professional Women as well as the 2010 recipient of the “Beyond Me” award. But army chaplain or chaplain of the year? No. Sorry.
I AM NOT Rebekah Montgomery, the Unitarian pastor.
I AM the Rebekah Montgomery who has been licensed to serve on the staffs of a number of evangelical churches. The Full Gospel Fellowship licensed me to serve as an “exhorter”; the Churches of God General Counsel (Findlay, Ohio) and the Missionary Church USA licensed me for women’s and children’s ministry, and I’ve served on the staff of a Baptist Church. Like others, because of my husband’s career, I have been
relocated to towns where “brand loyalty” to a particular denomination has been stretched. As a speaker and retreat leader, I’ve served in all sorts of evangelical churches — but not the Unitarian church. Never.
I AM NOT Rebekah Montgomery, the erotica writer.
I AM the Rebekah Montgomery who writes inspirational (hopefully) Christian books. I have written and edited a lot of books both under my own name, pseudonyms, and as works-for-hire with no name. I’ve actually lost track of how many books I’ve written/edited but none were erotica. I am editor of a couple of on-line e-zines and contributor to others, and I have written a ton of articles. I’ve been a magazine editor and newspaper reporter, but erotica author? No. Never. Not even under a pseudonym.
If you are still reading, you see my problem. So in the interest of clarity, I’m adding my maiden name, Binkley, to my byline. So from this day forward, I am Rebekah Binkley Montgomery—until there gets to be a whole crowd.
